Church of St. Mary
Church of St. Mary’s Haddington Road Dublin 4
When the Doolin family lived at Turners Cottages and at Malone Gardens,
they went to hear Mass and celebrate important family occasions at St.
Mary’s Roman Catholic Church.
The family christenings, first communions, confirmations, marriages
and deaths are all recorded in the church records. From these I have
obtained copies of christening and death certificates that have helped
me to build the family tree.

The original church was built in 1839 and the rounded apse and altar
was added in 1879. Later, in 1894, the facade, round belfry and the
aisles were added . The fine tower with its delicate tracery was built
in 1894 to the designs of W.G Doolin ! (of course I’m checking if he
is related).

Church of St. Andrew Dublin 2
The Murtagh family originally came from Co.Meath. Nanny Doolin (nee
Murtagh) was born in Grand Canal Street, Dublin 2, in 1900 as the youngest
of four girls. At that time, the Doolin family were living in Makin
Street, just around the corner.
The Murtagh and the Doolin families worshiped at the Church of St.
Andrew in Westland Row, Dublin 2.
